Pitcairn Update

A few days ago I posted about the trouble on Pitcairn Island (read the article here). The Times just published an update that indicates that Pitcarin now has its first full time police officer. Hopefully this will bring some peace to this troubled island.

Celebrity Island Snubs Environmentalists

Here is yet another story of people trying to navigate the tempestuous world of balancing conservation with development. Obviously over development leads to environmental and cultural annihilation. On the other hand, inhibiting development such as tourism often marginalizes already impoverished people. In either case, something needs to be done.
