Saturday Island Movie: LOTF

It’s Saturday, the perfect day for watching private islands movies. One of my favorite books, “Lord of the Flies” is also one of my favorite movies. The movie is very similar to William Golding’s novel and despite being made in 1963 has held up well over time. The film follows a planeload of schoolboys who become stranded on a tropical island. They’ve got food and water; all that’s left is to peacefully govern themselves until they’re rescued. ” Unfortunately, living peacefully is not as easy as it seems. Well acted and directed, Lord of the Flies is as compelling today as when first released.

  1. Blockbuster.com shows two versions — the original in ‘63 and another in ‘90 where parts of the story were changed:

“The new adaptation replaces British school children with a group of American military cadets and instead of a shipwreck, their plane crashes into the sea. The children swim ashore onto an island and try to fend for themselves, with the only surviving adult wracked with fever and crazed with pain.”

We’ve no plans for tonight … maybe we’ll go hunting for a copy of the original!
