When we talk about private islands we tend to focus on islands that lie in equatorial regions. Many people forget that Europe has many beautiful private islands available for sale and for rent. From the Mediterranean to the United Kingdom, to Croatia and Sweden, private islands can be found in almost every European country. Given its stable economy and governments, mild climate, and its rich cultural history, it is surprising most people overlook Europe. Therefore I have decided to write a short post highlighting some of the best areas in Europe for private islands. Click below to read more.

Scotland.
Imagine the beauty of the Scottish highlands and then imagine it set upon your own private island. This is what you will find when living on a private island in Scotland. A perfect example of this is Little Cumbrae Island. Little Cumbrae is characterized by steep coastal cliffs and higher inland areas with bluffs which rise steeply in places interspersed with streams, several inland lochs and marshy areas. The island is home to beautiful stone architecture that adds both character and prestige to the island. And at £2,500,000 it’s a relative steal.

Croatia
Honorable mention goes to Croatia. Croatia as a nation has been going through an economic transformation. Celebrities, the well-heeled and tourists are flooding to the countries Mediterranean coast. Croatia has tons of private islands, but patience is required, the inconsistent and changing regulations on coastal property ownership have in the past provided challenges for foreign investors. None the less, given its popularity with tourists one may wish to avoid the hassles of purchasing and simply rent one. The Island of Hvar is arguably the best available for rent. This private island retreat has a Villa on the sea front with its own private beach, jetty and Natural Park of 600 hectares along with 20 kilometers of private coastline. The island rents for €15,000 a week but can accommodate a small group of people making it more affordable.
