Has the Hilton Maldives Resort Been Sold?

By Islomaniac | July 5, 2007

On Monday it was announced that the Hilton Hotel Chain has been sold to the private equity firm “The Blackstone Group.” Hilton’s Board of Directors approved the transaction Tuesday, which will be completed during the fourth quarter of 2007 subject to shareholder approval, the corporation said in a statement. It is unclear weather the US $26 Billion Dollar sale will include the sale of the Hilton Maldives Resort & Spa on Rangali Island. It can be argued that the Maldives Resort and Spa is one the gems of the Hilton chain and it will be interesting to see what happens with to this island hotel. The resort is situated on two private islands which sit among unspoilt coral reefs. One of the highlights of the resort is that its the site of the worlds only undersea glass restaurant. A notice on the resorts website states “Hilton Maldives Resort & Spa becomes Conrad Maldives Rangali Island on 18 December 2007. This is in line with Conrad’s positioning as the luxury brand within the Hilton Family, with services and facilities at this wonderful resort being even further enhanced.” I contacted the Hotel Chain, however they could not be reached for comment at time of publication.

dear,mr mohamed shijaah-its not mr bill gates who bought the company Hilton Hotels Corporations.its a private equity firm named Blackstone Group of which bill gates doesnt have a single share.their major shareholders are founders Peter G Peterson and Stephen A Schwarzman.by the way chinese government owns 14% share of Blackstone Group.
Bill Gates and prince al waleeds bid to buy the Fourseasons Hotels and Resorts is not finalised yet.it has to be approved by the regulators.
Yes Blackstone Group now owns all the 2645 hotels and their 485000 hotel rooms and 105000 staffs in 80 countries INCLUDING… HILTON MALDIVES RESORT AND SPA.
