First Murder on Norfolk Island in 150 Years

In 2002, Norfolk Island, a tiny South Pacific Island was rattled by the brutal murder of Janelle Patton, it’s first such case in 150 years. Glenn McNeill, 29, was sentenced today to a maximum of 24 years in jail for the murder. In a statement, the islands Chief Justice Mark Weinberg stated, “Your crime has shocked the small community of Norfolk Island. It has sickened the people of Australia.” McNeill who is a chef from New Zealand was sentenced in an Australian courtroom with the proceedings being broadcast to the island.
