Picnic on Amherst Island

By Islomaniac | July 29, 2007

The other day I got thinking about Machiavellianism. Machiavellianism is primarily the term use to describe a person’s tendency to deceive and manipulate others for personal gain. It seems that there are a lot of people in the world anymore who use and manipulate others.  People who lie, cheat and pass themselves off as people they aren’t, we encounter them everyday, they even exist in the island world.

Given all this negativity I thought I would invite some friends over for a small party on Amherst Island.  Nothing fancy, just friends, family and good food.  Being surrounded by people you love in a place you love is a great way to beat the negativity.  As an older person I can tell you with 100 percent certainty that those Machiavellians’, they burn themselves out before they are 45. It’s because they don’t value the important things in life like friends and family.  It is why I am so glad to have my island.  It gives me a safe space where I can relax with the people I care about.  I think we should all have islands, we may be nicer to everyone if we did.
