South Pacific Islands Fear Drowning, Seek Tawain’s Assistance
By Islomaniac | August 2, 2007
Many south pacific islands are turning to one of their largest allies, Taiwan, fearing that they will be drowned by the rising sea. Tiny island nations such as Nauru, the Solomon Islands, Palau, Kiribati and the Marshall Islands all are at risk from sea level changes. On Nauru, the surface area is shrinking and salt water is encroaching on the water table. In the Solomon Islands farmers are losing valuable farm land. In Palau tourists are using too much water and electricity, depleting the islands already limited resources and in Kiribati there is no place to put their garbage.
