Onasis Retreat on Skorpios Island
By Islomaniac | August 12, 2007
Skorpios is probably one of the most famous private islands in the world. The island lies in the Ionian Sea off the western coast of Greece and is mainly known as the private island of the late Greek shipping billionaire Aristotle Onassis. The island was the site of his wedding to former First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy on October 20, 1968. When Aristotle died he passed it onto his daughter Christina who then passed it onto her daughter Athina. Little is known about Athina’s relationship with the island but her grandfather, mother and uncle are buried on the island. There were rumors a while ago that the island was up for sale, and financial publications have estimated its value at over $200 million US. However these rumors are exactly that, rumors, as far as I know the island is not up for sale nor has it ever been. It will be interesting to see how much it sells for and how fast is sells in the event that it ever comes up for sale.
