Private Island in St. Lawrence Sells for $3.78 Million
By Islomaniac | August 25, 2007
Fox Island, in New York’s Thousands Islands went on the auction block today as scheduled (see my post on the auction here) and sold for $3.78 million which is four times the price paid for the island when it last sold 4 years ago. The high bidder at the auction was Vance Wilson of Tewksbury, N.J.,
The new owner plans to keep the 263-acre island as a family retreat, said Jim Woltz, president of the realty company handling the auction. About 100 people came to bid, but in the end it came down to a bidding war between Wilson and one other person. The new owners wife, Marcia Wilson, is the owner of Daffy’s, a discount clothing chain based in New Jersey.
Wilson, who was identified as the chain’s executive vice present in the 1990s, declined to be interviewed.
Virginia land developer Jerome LaLonde owns the island with two friends. they decided to sell the island upon realizing that they didn’t use it enough.
The report says the island was undeveloped but the listing on Private Islands Online cleary shows that the island has both a dock and a beautiful home.
Congratulations to the new owners!
