Beware of Fake Island Nations
There is the old phrase “that a sucker is born every minute,” perhaps that is why there are scam artists out there creating fake island nations in an attempt to rip off governments and potential investors. Here are some examples of the more popular island scams.
The first example involves the
Another example of a fake island scam is the Principality of New Utopia. On the surface New Utopia seems like a silly, yet noble idea. The founders plan is to build huge pillars into the
A third example of fake island nation scams is the case of the “Dominion of Melchizedek.” This “dominion,” was started in a prison by two convicts selling worthless bank licenses and promoting its “Ecclesiastical Sovereignty” (whatever the heck that is). Featured in a variety of publications such as the Washington Post the Dominion is a scam designed to steal people’s money. You can read about the Dominion, including many excerpts from the articles critical of it, at http://www.quatloos.com/ groups/ melchiz.htm or you can visit the Dominion on the internet at http://www.melchizedek.com.
What this all breaks down to folks is there are people out there who are crazy enough to create island nations in the hopes of making some money. The scary thing is a lot of these fake island countries have gotten exposure in major publications. Therefore the moral of the story is do your homework and don’t be impressed by a features in fancy publications.

International Disputes - The RMI Claim
Legality of the Republic of the Marshall Islands’ claim to Eneen-Kio Atoll
Influenced by armed conflicts, territorial claims, United Nations mandated administration as a Pacific Trust Territory and other factors, the modern political development of Micronesia took form following the end of World War II.
Eneen-Kio Atoll was well-known to be a part of the Ratak Archipelago of the Marshall Islands by virtually all Marshallese adults. When the Republic of the Marshall Islands gained its independence in 1979, Eneen-Kio Atoll was not incorporated and was specifically excluded from the territorial boundaries of the atolls under its jurisdiction, despite its Marshallese name, its natural geographic (geologic) orientation as part of the Ratak Archipelago and its unequivocal ancestral links with ancient Marshallese religious, social and cultural mores.
Since the Republic of the Marshall Islands was not a sovereign nation in 1899 when the United States, and subsequently the Empire of Japan, illegally commenced their respective occupations of Eneen-Kio Atoll, it is the position of the hereditary allodial landowner that the present government of the Republic of the Marshall Islands has no valid basis for any claim of jurisdiction and never has had any justifiable claim. If it were possible that the RMI government had a valid claim, it would, in any event, derive through the landowner, the Iroijlaplap, whose ownership was officially recognized in 1987 by the RMI President, Minister of Justice and Chief Secretary. The RMI government is prohibited from owning land as consequence of the natural laws inherent in Marshallese culture and traditional rights of land tenure.
The Iroijlaplap not only has NOT relinquished his claim in favor of the RMI government, but in fact has endeavored to establish an independent state, separate from the Republic of the Marshall Islands, since two years before the RMI actually achieved independence under the Compact of Free Association with the United States and was no longer considered a UN Pacific Trust Territory.
