The Unknown Greek Islands
By Islomaniac | October 27, 2007
The Greek Islands are one of the most (if not the most) famous island archipelago’s in the world. Olive groves, drystone walls, vineyards, sandy beaches, clear waters and the scent of jasmine. All of these words describe the Greek Islands. Recently a journalist spent some time exploring Paxos and Antipaxos the smallest of the Ionian Islands. What this journalist discovered is that although the islands are just 10km south of Corfu, the islands feel worlds away from the chaos of mainland society. The islands have captivating scenery ranging from centuries-old terraced olive groves on gently rolling hills to plunging cliffs and rock formations. Tourists visit the island frequently spending a few hours on the islands before heading back to the more popular islands. Therefore, the best time to visit the island is after the boats leave for the day. Spend your days on the islands taking in the sites, sounds and smells, spend some time relaxing on the beach and feast on their famous fresh seafood. Speaking from personal experience the Greek Islands are beautiful and should be seen at least once in a life time. To read more about these tiny and often neglected islands click here.
