When is it the Right Time to Sell Your Island?

sell you rislandUnless you pass your island down to a loved one or donate it to an environmental group eventually you will need to sell your island.  This leads many island owners to wonder when it is the right time to sell your property. 

Unfortunately there is no easy answer to this question.  This is because island real estate doesn’t follow the same trends as the mainstream real estate market.  For example, although the mainland real estate market in the US is suffering, the island market is still going strong.  Similarly, when the mainland island market was strong, the island market was strong.  Therefore the trouble is trying to decide when it is most advantageous to sell an island.  

I would recommend not looking at traditional real estate trends when selling your island.  Instead I would recommend engaging in international marketing of your property.  This will allow you to target all markets, not just the strong/weak markets.

A final piece of advice that I would recommend is to sell your island at a reasonable price.  Despite a strong island market, people are still looking for a deal and if they believe that your island is overpriced than selling your island will be futile.
