How do I Get to a Private Island?
By Islomaniac | November 5, 2007
Whether it be a private island, a private island resort or a small island nation
Really getting to an island is not that challenging. Your journey to any island that is a significant distance from where you live typically begins with taking a flight to an international airport that is close to your target destination. From there, you may need to take a regional flight to a location somewhat closer to your island destination. In order to get to your island from this regional airport you may do one of a couple of things. If the island is close you can typically take a boat. Often you can charter a boat and have someone take
you there, or if the island has other residents or a resort there may be standard “ferry” times to take you to the island. If the island is far from shore, many islands and island resorts have either landing strips or helipads which means you can fly directly to your island destination.
In short, traveling to any island can be cumbersome and tiring. However I always like to think of it as part of the adventure and the creation of a great story that you can tell your envious friends back home
The best piece of advise I can offer is ensure everything is arranged in advance. If you are traveling to a small private island resort there is a good chance that everything will be arranged for you as part of the package (check to be sure). On the other hand if you are traveling to a completely private island you may need to arrange for your own boat/plane transfer(s), therefore before you leave ensure that these resources are available
