Golf is growing in popularity at an exponential rate. Therefore it comes as no surprise that artificial islands are being constructed to function as world class golf courses.
Keeping with the tradition of “the best of the best” in 2009 Dubai will host the world’s richest gold tournament with a prize fund valued at US $10 Million which is larger than the U.S. Tour’s Players Championship which offers prize money of $9 million.
Called the Dubai World Championship the golf tournament will be held at the Jumeirah Golf Estates. The championship will also include a $10 million dollar bonus pool with the winner receiving $1.66 million. The inaugural Dubai World Championship will take place at Jumeirah from Nov. 19-22, 2009, on either the Fire or Earth course. The announcement was made at Dubai’s Burj Al Arab, the world’s most luxurious hotel built on a man-made island in the Persian Gulf.

Dubai is creating exclusive man made islands and fabulous cays and intercoastal waterways all along their coastline…at an unbelievable pace. The country (emirate) has clearly decided to position itself as a (the) major luxury tourist destination before their oil reserves run low. Golf on steroids is another part of the strategy. Not long ago it was an austere desert wasteland. Who’d of thought?
This is an awesome blog, BTW.
