It’s all About Infinity Pools

By Islomaniac | November 23, 2007

infinity poolI would say one of the most beautiful additions you can make to any private island is an infinity pool. In fact, if I was any younger I would build one on my island. For those of you who don’t know an infinity pool is a swimming pool that produces the visual illusion of the water extending into the horizon, appearing to extend into infinity. In reality the far edge of the pool ends in a weir (which is like a dam) that is a couple of inches below the median pool water level. A trough area is consturcted below this weir, the water spills into the trough and the water is pumped back into the pool.

The infinity pool effect is ideal on private islands as the best effect is produced when the pool appears to blend into a larger body of water (although apparently the effect is quite striking with a mountainous background). The only disadvantage of an infinity pool is that they tend to be expensive consisting of upwards of US $80,000. That being said, an infinity pool would be a great addition to any private island.
