Is a Hydrogen Powered Island in your Future

By Islomaniac | November 24, 2007

hydrogen powerNASA has used hydrogen power since the 70s, and it appears for the first time this unique power source may be coming down to Earth.  Hydrogen is high in energy, yet an engine that burns pure hydrogen produces almost no pollution, which means it  is exceptionally environmentally friendly.

Hydrogen fuel cells are being touted as an ideal technology for heating/cooling and or powering your private island home.  The principle behind hydrogen power is simple, a fuel cell combines hydrogen and oxygen to produce electricity, heat, and water. I could provide a lot of details about how hydrogen power is generated, but I am afraid I don’t understand it too well.  Needless to say, keep your eyes pealed for portable hydrogen powered generators in the not too distant future. Rumor has it they will be about the size of a refrigerator and produce limited emissions.  I wasn’t able to find any info on how much these systems would cost or how much power they could potentially generate, but I am expecting it to be impressive.
