Purchasing Palm Trees

palm tree There used to be a man who lived in the neighborhood who every summer would buy a palm tree for his front yard. Most people thought it was silly considering this is Michigan. However, it always got a lot of attention and reminded people that albeit short, Michigan does have a tropical summer where palm trees can survive.

My old friend and his lonely palm tree got me thinking about private islands and what happens when your little oasis is a little sparse of vegetation. As it turns out there are a lot of companies out there that grow palm trees just for this occurrence.

In my research I came across a company called Mr. Good Tree. Located in Florida, they specialize in the growth and delivery of palm trees. The company doesn’t provide any info on how far they deliver but I am guessing if you are in the region (which a lot of island owners are) you could quickly be receiving between 25 and 40 palm trees to your island, turning it from barren to beautiful in a few hours.

If anyone has any information on nurseries that grow palms and deliver to islands let me know so I can pass it on to everyone!

  2. hello everybody!

i’m from saint jerome, quebec canada, 1hr north of montreal where the winter is longer and colder.
i have bought a 12′ palm three last summer, kept it in a plastic container 4′ in the ground. when comes the end of autumn i bring it inside my house (my front hall way is about 20′ high). it survided all winter (about 5 months to date) and now i’m considering taking it out for the spring/summer to come.

the leafs are still growing up and multiplying, couple of them has changed colors but not fallen out of the three!!

hope this would help for someone far more south than me :)
