Owning and selling the most expensive island in the world is a tough title to obtain and hold on to. Until recently the most expensive island in the world available for sale was Ronde Island in Grenada, which is on the market for 100 million dollars.

Ronde Island was recently dethroned of its title of the most expensive island in the world by a remarkable European island. Lisbon Island in Portugal has just been put on the market for 240,000,000 Euros which translates to about $350,000,000!

Although this is a remarkable price, Lisbon Island really is a remarkable island. The island is just 300 meters off the coast of Lisbon (the capital of Portugal) and is 3,000 acres in size. The island is ideal for development and a luxury gold course, resort and marina have already been proposed for the island.

Although this island may be out of the price range of the average islomaniac the island is an amazing fine, and I am genuine in my belief that I have never seen anything like this come on the market. The fact that it is located in Europe, is zoned for development and is so close to a large metropolitan area makes this island extremely desirable to not only island lovers, but to developers as well.

I doubt this island will be bought by one investor. Instead I expect it to be purchased by a keen investor/company who sees the development opportunities of this unique island, because although expensive, given its size and location this island is without a doubt a lucrative investment opportunity.

On a final note I find it remarkable that a piece of property this large and so close to a large metropolitan area (about 3.4 million people in the immediate area) has remained undeveloped/populated for so long.
