Be Gone Island Bugs
By Islomaniac | December 12, 2007
I am not going to debate the fact that bugs play an important role in our environment. That being said as any camper or island owner can tell you, occasionally they can be a headache. I am personally against the use of pesticides to get rid of bugs, I feel that they are bad for the water, vegetation, other animals and people. Therefore when trying to keep bugs away I look to other products.
One of my favorites is the bug zapper. For those of you who don’t know a bug zapper is a device that attracts and kills insects that are attracted by light. In short, a light source attracts insects to an electrical grid, where they are electrocuted by a high voltage.
I have also recently heard of something called “ultra sonic bug repellent.” Apparently ultrasonic devices work by mimicking the sound of the bat. I haven’t seen these devices in stores and I am wondering how effective they are. If anyone has any information about how much they cost and how good they work I would love to hear about it.
