How to Buy Your Own Private Island
By Islomaniac | December 26, 2007
Until the arrival of the internet a few years ago, figuring out how to buy an island was a challenging affair. Now with modern technology, viewing, inspecting and purchasing a private island has become much easier.
A great website called “Gearcrave” just released an excellent article on how to purchase a private island. The article is essentially a compilation of articles published by other websites, namely Private Islands Online. However, it provides a great overview on how to pay for an island and what to look for in an island purchase.
Here are some criteria to take into consideration when purchasing an island.
· What is the property’s history of tropical storms, natural disasters, or other problems?
- Is the property near any military test ranges for aircraft, missiles, Navy ships, or other vehicles?
- Is the island on a flight path for private or commercial aircraft?
- How far away is the nearest airport? Hospital? Helipad?
- What is the water situation on the island itself? Will I need to dig wells
- Who lives nearby?

Thanks for the link and credit. Unfortunately, it doesn’t work. I think you need to add http:// in front of it.
I thought GearCrave’s article was interesting, but not original. There was nothing unique there.
