Using the Sun to Recharge your Island Appliances

Solar charger

One of the biggest challenges of island living is finding a way to provide a steady stream of power to your appliances.  With the emergence of “green technology” such as wind and solar power this process is becoming much easier.

One great new product that I recently came across to help you live more comfortably on your island is a solar battery charger.  This inventive new technology allows you to charge up old batteries with nothing more than the sun’s rays.  In addition the device comes with a USB port which allows you to charge other portable devices that draw their power via USB.

There is no word on how long it takes to charge the batteries and you have to use the batteries that are produced by the same company that makes the charger.  The good news is that in addition to allowing you to live more sustainable on your island the unit only costs about $54.
