On the heels of the completion of both the Palm and the World projects in Dubai, there is speculation of a new, massive man-made island project coming to the coastal waters of the tiny, oil rich nation.
The project which has been titled “The Universe” is the latest project by the development company Nakheel, the same company behind both the Palm and World projects. If given the go ahead the Universe islands will add more that 7,500 acres worth of man-made islands to this already island rich region.
Nakheel’s project is expected to take up to 15 years to complete and will be situated directly between the coast and the world islands. Not surprisingly, the plan is drawing outrage from the wealthy residents of the World Islands, many of whom paid millions for exclusive islands, only to now face the threat of being surrounded by a Universe of islands, which will no doubt impede views and increase water traffic.
Environmentalists are also angry noting that yet another island development project will further reduce visibility in the otherwise clear water and cause further erosion on nearby beaches.
This news really took me by surprise. I am amazed that they are continuing to build islands in this tiny area. What are your thoughts on “The Universe” is it an ambitious project that will open up island living to more people? Or has this project gone to far and now risking extensive environmental damage? Which environmentalists are angry? I’ve not seen any comments yet; where can I find them?

If anyone has the money to do things right, it’s these people. They have addressed the environmental impact in the other projects and vow to do the same with this one.
Unless the new owners of the World Islands were told beforehand that they would never have to worry about new development around their islands, then they should have considered that it was likely, before they made a purchase. With as much expansion going on in Dubai, it seems that this would have been a “given”.

Crazy enough as it sounds, this project that is going on in Dubai is crazy. At the same time the wealthy kill me, if you don’t want your multi million dollar island give it to me I would gladly move in. And wouldn’t care if they built the big bang theory around it.
