The Greek Islands are known for their stunning vistas, warm climate, rich history and incredible food. It is for these reasons that I thought I would feature Hydra, one of the lesser known Greek Islands. Hydra is one of the Saronic Islands located in the Aegean Sea. The island is almost entirely dependent on tourism, with wealthy Athenians comprising most of the visitors. There is one main town on the island known simply as Hydra Port. The town consists of a crescent shaped harbor, around which is centered a strand of restaurants, shops, markets and galleries, all of which are very tourist friendly. Access to the island is achieved via ferry. Motor vehicles are not permitted on the island, so the bulk of transportation is provided by donkeys and water taxis. As a tourist though this is not a problem, no vehicles ensure that the island is clean and quite, and given that the city is quite compact it is possible to walk virtually everywhere.
