Private Island Cooking

By Islomaniac | March 28, 2008

Island CookingCooking while on your island isn’t something I talk about frequently on this blog.  The fact of the matter is if you live on a well developed island, except for the fact that there may be no convenience store nearby, is pretty much the same as cooking anywhere else.

However, if you live on a more rustic island where you camp, rather than build a settlement, cooking may become more challenging.  I recently came across some 21st century cooking gear that make island campfire cooking easier.

The GSI Outdoors Hard Anodized Extreme Dutch Oven isn’t your traditional pot.  Weighing a fraction of their cast-iron cousins these Dutch Oven’s can bake cookies or scones – or even quiche!  GSI sells three sizes starting with the 2 quart model, which weighs 3.7 pounds and costs about $60.

I think this product would be great if you are an island camper and looking to make meals beyond the beans and hamburger mainstays.  For more information on this product and all of GSI  outdoor gear click here.
