Explore Cape Breton Island

By Islomaniac | March 29, 2008

Cape Breton IslandI often envy people who live on sparsely populated islands in remote areas of the world. In many ways they have the benefit of the private island experience without having to sacrifice the sense of community that comes with living in larger settlements.

Although not isolated, Cape Breton Island is one of my favorite islands. Located in the Atlantic Ocean, the island is separated from the Nova Scotia peninsula by the Strait of Canso. Cape Breton Island is often regarded as one of the most regions in Canada.

With a population of almost 150,000, Cape Breton Island would not be considered sparsely populated. However, the friendliness and warmth of the islands residents makeCape Breton Island visitors always feel welcome. The island is famous around the world for its coal miners and fiddle music, the later of which has produced many world renowned performers.

The island is easily accessible, as it is connected to Nova Scotia via the Canso Causeway. Numerous accommodations are available in Sydney, the islands largest settlement. If you happen to be in Eastern Canada this summer I would highly recommend paying a visit to Cape Breton Island.
