I have often heard about islands having investment potential but here is a story of an island investment really paying off! It was recently reported that a Florida family discovered a large cache of early 19th century buried treasure on their
Florida
Island after beginning construction on new home on their island. The name of the family and the location of the island are being kept secret for privacy reasons.
The find is believed to the lost treasure of infamous pirate Jose Gaspar, better known as Gasparilla.
Gasparilla was infamous in the West Coast of Florida in the early 1800’s for attacking ships and stealing the treasures that were aboard.
Legend has it that Gasparilla and his brother buried much of the treasure on the islands in and around
Charlotte Harbor
Florida.
It appears that the family discovered a large cache of this treasure on their island which in today’s dollars may be valued at almost $500 million. What a lucky family, it seems now they will be able to afford a few more islands to add to their collection. This just goes to show you that Private
Islands can really pay off.
Update: Yes this was an April Fool’s Joke, but Gasparilla was a real pirate. Click here to read him and his lost treasure.
