Waterford Castle Last week marked the beginning of a five part series exploring family friendly islands available for rent this summer. Last week I featured Honey Bee Island, an Ontario that is the ideal escape for the cottage loving family.

This week I thought I would venture across the Atlantic to Ireland, home of the famous Waterford Castle. Waterford Castle, although not a private island is ideal for the family who wants to golf and be pampered on their summer holiday. Waterford castle sits on a 310 acre island and has been inhabited since the 11^th century.

Today the island a 19 bedroom luxury hotel and 18 hold Championship Golf Course. The castle features décor and details that will thrill even the most discerning of guests. The island is located 3 miles from Waterford city and 2.5 hours from Dublin. A weeks stay at this posh island hotel costs approximately 1365 Euros.
