Nantucket!
By Islomaniac | May 15, 2008
After over a year of posting on this website it occured to me that I have never wrote about Nantucket. Granted its not a private island, but its still a pretty interesting piece of property and a significant part of American history.
Nantucket is an island 30 miles south of Cape Cod. Together with the small islands of Tuckernuck and Muskeget it consititutes the town of Nantucket, Massachusetts. Nantucket is largely regarded as a tourist destination and a summer colony with the population soaring from 10,000 to approximately 50,000 during the summer months.
The island is historically significant with the highest concentration of pre-Civil War structures in the Unites states. Although the islands originally inhabitated by Native Americans, the island has been occupied by Europeans since the mid 1600’s. Today the island has the highest property values of any zip code in Massachusetts, and I believe one of the highest in the United States. Nantucket is easily accessed via Nantucket Memorial Airport or one of three commerical ferry services.
