Until recently, it was quite common to read an article about luxury travel and see no mention of private islands.  However, this has begun to change as more and more celebrities and other wealthy individuals are renting or purchasing private islands. 

This trend towards private island recognition can be highlighted by an article recently published on a Dubai website about some of the hottest vacation destinations in the world. The list of 10 destinations is heavily dominated by private islands and island resorts. 

On the list are popular island properties such as North Island in the Seychelles, an 11-room eco friendly island resort that has entertained celebrities such as U2’s Bono. Also on the list is Huvafen Fushi (pictured) in the Maldives a tiny Atoll North of Male that features 24-hour butler service and has hosted celebrities such as Kate Moss, Tom Cruise and Kate Holmes.
