By Islomaniac | July 16, 2008
Yale University, one of the most prestigious academic institutions in the United States, is also home to one of the most influential secret societies in the world.
The Skull and Bones Society was founded in 1832 by William Huntington Russell and Alphonso Taft. Since its founding, members of the skull and bones society have included John Kerry, George W. Bush, George H. W. Bush, William H. Taft as well as a whole host of other people who have gone on to become prominent figures in American business and politics.
As would be expected with such prominent alumni the society is also quite wealthy with assets of $4,133,246 in 1999. The Skull and Bones society is also the only secret organization known to own a private island. This private island, one of the Thousand Islands lying in territorial area between the United States and Canada, was given to the Order by one of its early mysterious benefactor families who was associated with the secret society. Not much is known about the island, however it is featured in The Good Shepherd, a 2006 movie costaring Angelina Jolie.
