The Palm artificial island project is in the news today and not for a good reason. The luxury hotel on the large island off the coast of Dubai has been hit by a fire in its lobby.

An official has said firefighters have been battling flames in the lobby of the five-star Atlantis Dubai hotel on the artificial island. The cause is not yet known. The giant Jumeira Palm Island is host to properties owned by celebrities and millionaires, including David Beckham.

The Atlantis, which has not yet opened and was set to open this month. The official says workers have been evacuated and that there have been no casualties. The Atlantis is host to a spectacular water park, an open-air aquarium and a dolphinarium.
