Tuvalu Seeks Help With Global Climate Change

TuvaluOne of the world’s smallest nations, Tuvalu, is facing a huge problem. Slowly, the tiny island nation is slipping beneath the rising waters of the Pacific. The government is reaching out to the world to help save the island nation which has about 12,000 residents.

Tuvalu is the world’s fourth smallest country, bigger only than the Vatican City, Monaco, and Nauru.  The governement states that its people are on the front line of climate change seeing first hand the big tides, coastal erosion, and salty pools and ponds that come from rising sea levels.

Researchers suspect that their is only between 30 and 50 years to save the island. It is for this reason that Tuvalu is reaching out for help noting that wiith international aid, we could raise Tuvalu, build sea walls to protect the island from the tidal surges that are bombarding the island.

  1. This is interesting–except its not true. Global warming is not the cause of the problems on these islands. The ocean is not rising around them. They are eroding away from a combination of factors–which can be looked up with about 2 minutes of effort on google.

  2. being a chistian ,and also a concerned individual when it comes to gods people and there needs and qaulity of life,Reading this artical inspired this response.
Somtimes inspiration is simply making the conection between the right people and the proper situation to make things happen (with gods guidence).
It is unfotunate and unexceptable that the world polutes it’s self to the point it has to be rescued but it’ a sad fact of life.

  3. Maybe this is what happened to Atlantis.

  4. Mary, how can you say that? Global warming melts the ice caps which only adds more water to the sea and causes sea levels to rise…. hence the reason why Tuvalu is sinking. The devastating fact about this situation is that so many Tuvaluans have been evacuated, yes evacuated to Australia and New Zealand, not temporarily but permanently. They cannot go back to their island home because their island is sinking. They are now what you call geographical immigrants in Australia and New Zealand. This is so heartbreaking. So please, be a little more sensitive when leaving comments…… you’ll never get the chance to see the beauty of Tuvalu now as the airstrip is below water at high tide, pretty soon it will be below water at low tide too.
