A few days ago I posted about the fire that broke out at the new Atlantis Hotel in Dubai. Despite this small setback, it is not stopping the owners of the property from going ahead with their plan to throw one of the biggest island parties the world has ever seen.

Hollywood stars, heads of state and billionaires will be among the 2,000 VIP guests at the grand opening of the resort. The two billion dollar resort which is located on the man made Palm Jumeirah will feature 1,500 rooms and 16 restaurants.

The four day opening celebration is expected to cost around 40 million dollars and will feature singer Kylie Minogue and a  fireworks display 10 times larger than the one at the opening ceremonies of the Beijing Olympics. The fireworks display is so large the organizers have stated it will be visible from space.
