Artificial islands have been around for hundreds of years. However, today they have taken on a new form to become architectually and technologically advanced marvels that are habitats for human business and leisure.  The World of Technology Blog recently published an excellent article on all of the artifical island projects currently underway around the world.

The article includes well known projects such as The World Dubai and The Pearl in Qatar as well as lesser known projects such as Autopia Ampere a proposed self sustaining island city the would literally be grown from minerals in sea water. Also on the list is Federation Island which is being built in the Black Sea and will be home to the Olympic Winter Games when they are held in Russia in 2014.
