Escape to Quick Divorce Island
For those of you who have forgotten it’s Valentine’s Day (If you forgot stop reading and go to the mall). This halmark holiday is the time of the year when you shower your loved one with chocolates, roses, and romantic cards.
The Globe and Mail, one of Canada’s leading news papers recently did an article on Valentine’s Day, Island’s, weddings and the sometimes inevitable divorce.
The article notes that many Caribbean Islands depend on this time of year. According to the article thousands of Canadians head down to the Caribbean each year to tie the knot.
Of course like in many places around the world 50 percent of Canadian marriages end in divorce. This high rate of divorce has led to the emergence of another kind of niche opportunity in the Caribbean…the quicky divorce.
The Globe calls it the Divorce capital of the Caribbean or the Republic of Love-gone-wrong of course the rest of the world knows it as the Domincan Republic. In the Nations largest city, Santo Domingo a divorce will cost you around $2,000, far cheaper than in many other countries, and the proliferation of barristers and soliciters means its not hard to find a good lawyer.
The quicky Caribbean divorce in The Dominican has become so popular that celebrities including Mia Farrow, Mariah Carey, Marc Anthony and the “queen of divorce” herself Elizabeth Taylor have all divorced on the island.
