The Waterpod: A Floating Eco-Habitat
Waterpod, is a visionary, floating habitat that is a collaborative design between an eclectic group of artist and educators. Waterpod is an experimental, self sustaining community designed to meet the demands of a world with rising tides. The waterpod maximizes our use of water which makes up to 70% of the earth’s surface.
Beginning on May Day 2009 the Waterpod will travel down the Newton Creek between Brookly and Queens, down the East River to the waters of New York Harbor, docking at several Manhatten piers on the Hudson before continuing onward.
A fully self-sustaining comunity Waterpod is a triple domed island fashioned from reclaimed wood, metal and plastic and attached to a twenty-five-foot barge.
