New Eco Island Development
Slovenian architecture firm OFIS was recently granted a 25-year lease by the government of the Maldives to develop a set of four private island eco-resorts.
Each island’s plans demonstrates concern for the local environment, the ability to self-sustain and the developers intent on maintaining the cultural authenticity of the area. The development proposal includes a 100 bed 5-star resort, which will be spread throughout the islands with a variety of different accommodation styles, including bungalows and villas.
In order to power the islands, wind and solar will most likely be used, and buildings will be constructed from locally sourced bamboo, straw and wood.
