Out of Thin Air

waterdrop-by-snapAs anyone who lives on a private island knows,  gaining access to fresh water can sometimes be a challenge. Fortunately new technologies are promising a future wherein one can live completely self sufficient on their island.

A new technology being proposed by German scientists involves turning air into water.  According to the researchers getting the water is not hard, after all we have all seen condensation on cool pipes. The problem  has been how to find an energy efficient way of harvesting this water.

The technology works by using a saline solution that absorbs moisture as it travels through a tower. This moisture rich solution then is sucked into an underground tank where it can be stored and consumed. What is great about this research is that it can be adapted to use on both large and small private islands.
