Necker island has reportedly reopened following a fire on August 22^nd which destroyed the eight bedroom Great House. It was reported that Kate Winslet was staying on the island at the time and actually assisted in the rescue of Branson’s elderly mother from the main residence.

Following the reopening, guests will have use of six newly refurbished Bali Houses. Temple House, Branson’s private home, will also be on offer alongside his 105-foot Necker Belle catamaran.

Branson plans to rebuild the Great House in the same Balinese style with views of the Caribbean, although he promised several “innovative twists.”

The fire was triggered by a lightning strike during Hurricane Irene.

The Seattle Post-Intelligencer recently listed google co-founder and uber-billionaire Paul Allen’s Anacortes Washington island on the market for 13.5 million.  Allen purchased “Allan Island” in 1992 and reportedly to build a vacation home. However later he purchased up Spetty Peninsual site on nearby Lopez Island in 1996 and abandoned his original plans.

Allan Island, named for a Nacy hero, not the Billionaire (hence the name change), is an almost entirely undeveloped 292 acre island. The island boasts one modest house – a caretakers cabin fitted with water, septic and generator. There is also a grass airstrip and a boat dock.

“We love to travel and we love Necker Island,” Lachey, 37, tells People. “We’ve vacationed there multiple times, and when we got engaged, we both immediately thought of the island as the perfect place to have our wedding.”

In a recent interview with the Telegraph Grylls reported “We spend a lot of time at our home in Wales every summer where we own a small island just off the coast. When I bought the island it was a stretch and I’ve had to put a lot of money into renovations over the years, but it’s a little private paradise. It has just one home on it and it doubles as a holiday property and an investment. We’ve really gained from it. ”

Anyone who is familiar with Lemurs knows they are probably one of the cutest creatures in the animal kingdom. However, sadly they are also one of the most endangered.

Billionaire Richard Branson says he wants to use one of his private Caribbean islands to help save an endangered species of African primate.

The British entrepreneur plans to introduce lemurs to the undeveloped Moskito Island in the British Virgin Islands. Branson said he hopes to create a thriving population to help make up for the loss of their native habitat on the island of Madagascar.

Branson said on Monday he hopes to bring the first group of about 30 from zoos in the coming weeks.

He calls it a radical idea and says he will try to address concerns of critics who fear the plan will hurt native lizard and bird populations.
