And along for the ride is Leonardo DiCaprio who is not stranger to private islands, owning one in Belize himself. Dicaprio plays US Marshal Teddy Daniels who visits a hospital for the criminally insane on remote Shutter Island to investigate a disappeared murderess. It is a complex tale of who is insane and who can be trusted, with Leo riveting as a troubled cop.

The movie is playing in theatres around the world right now.

Cutthroat Island is a 1995 movie starring Geena Davis and Mathew Modine. In the movie Davis, plays infamous female pirate Morgan Adams who heads out on a quest with her mutinous crew to find a long lost burried treasure hidden on Cutthroat Island.

The movie which takes place near Jamaica in The Caribbean follows Davis as she fights off her crew, her villainous uncle and the British navy in a quest to find a long lost treasure hidden by one of her ancestors. Although the movie has some pretty good special effects, and the islands are beautiful, the dialogue is terrible and the plot doesn’t always make sense. That being said, Cutthroat Island makes for some great Sunday afternoon island entertainment.

Although almost any movie will do, I find the movies that feature private islands to be my favorites. Of all the movies out there that feature Private Islands (and there are a lot) I would say Cast Away is my favorite.

The movie stars Tom Hanks who plays Chuck Noland, a FedEx employee whose personal and professional life are ruled by the clock. His fast paced life comes to an abrupt end when, after a plane crash, he becomes isolated on a remote island. Alone on the island he must meet the basic needs of survival, including water, food and shelter. After four years, and a dramatic climax Chuck is successful in leaving the island and is eventually rescued.

The movie is amazing because it does an excellent job of capturing what it can be like to be on a Private Island. From the sounds to the over whelming feeling of isolation, the film allows its viewers to feel what it must be like to be alone on a private island.

Today, Nim’s Island opens in theatres. An action packed, family friendly movie, set primarily on a remote private island, the film stars Jodie Foster, Gerard Butler and 11-year-old Abigail Breslin.

Based on the popular book by Wendy Orr, Foster portrays Alexandra Rover, a bestselling author who is also agoraphobic. The film is set in a deserted tropical paradise that is home to Nim (Breslin), her father (Butler) and some friends, Selkie the sea lion, Fred the bearded dragon and a pelican named Galileo. The film, directed by husband-and-wife team Mark Levin and Jennifer Flackett, was actually filmed on the sandy beaches of Australia’s Gold Coast and in the lush rain forests of Hinchinbrook Island, a nature preserve with vast strips of white sand beaches and a vast mountain that looks like a volcano.

Nim’s Island opens nation wide in theatre’s today, I just may have to take the grandkids!

This means that I have more time than ever to entertain my hobbies and take some time to rest and relax after my very hectic summer. One of my favorite things to do on these long and cold nights is watch a movie, and naturally since I’m an islomaniac I love island movies. I was thinking tonight I would watch the movie “The Beach”. I don’t think I have ever seen it before but I have heard good things about it from other island lovers. The Beach stars Leonardo DiCaprio (who is one of my favorite actors), and Tilda Swinton. According to the films summary Richard (Dicaprio) travels to Thailand, while there he meets a loony Robert Carlyle who gives him a map to a secret paradise. Upon arriving on the island they meet an alternative group who lives there and they join them, but after a while problems evolve and a minor hell breaks loose. Anyway the movie sounds good and since it takes place on a private island it gets bonus point. So unless someone e-mails me in the next 12 hours telling me its the worst movie they have seen, then I will be watching The Beach tonight.

It’s Saturday, the perfect day for watching private islands movies. One of my favorite books, “Lord of the Flies” is also one of my favorite movies. The movie is very similar to William Golding’s novel and despite being made in 1963 has held up well over time. The film follows a planeload of schoolboys who become stranded on a tropical island. They’ve got food and water; all that’s left is to peacefully govern themselves until they’re rescued. ” Unfortunately, living peacefully is not as easy as it seems. Well acted and directed, Lord of the Flies is as compelling today as when first released.
